Somebody once wrote me, asking, “There are certainly a lot of teachers and students of A Course in Miracles on the market, but there must be something that you’ve hooked into, or caught onto? A thing that triggered a transformation or perhaps a major healing. So, the thing that was it?”
“Trust,” I said.
Consider your lifetime because it is apparently nowadays with regards to the story. How do we answer the question; “Who do I trust? Where do I do believe my safety lies? How will I be sustained? Who’s my source?” acim lesson 1 So when we discuss the last stage of the awakening being pure trust, it’s simply about disengaging and withdrawing our faith and rely upon many of these made-up concepts, beliefs, and ideas in the world. It’s a lot like building a big house of cards, stacking on a single card after the other. Then a good wind occurs and poof, it’s just blown over. It can’t even stand a little gust of wind. It’s so frail. It’s so temporary. It’s so transitory; It was this sense of placing rely upon the Spirit and withdrawing rely upon the rest; those things that were identified and learned as worldly accomplishments. Why should we rely upon those? Have they ever brought us lasting peace and happiness? Are they really trustworthy? It really comes down seriously to the essence of who is my cousin? Is it Spirit or matter? Is it Spirit or form? Furthermore how most of us have tried trusting people? Has anybody tried this one?So you are asking the question, “If someone dies or is apparently dying of starvation, what does that say about their mind?” Where all of this is heading is to the awareness that everything is mental. What this awakening can tell you is that everything is mental and that everything is just a hallucination. That is an environment of ideas and what we call manifest reality, isn’t reality at all. There is no distinction between thought and form. Jesus has to construct his whole workbook in A Course In Miracles on making the text between thought and form. His lessons start out with, “Nothing I see means anything,” (W-1) and, “I have given everything I see all the meaning it has for me.” (W-2) Then, He works his way as much as number 4, “These thoughts do not mean anything&rdquo ;.Now, He’s discussing thoughts. First He’s discussing perception, then about our thoughts, then He returns with lessons 5,6,7,8,9 … perception, perception, perception, perception, perception … and then number 10, “My thoughts do not mean anything.” You will see he’s wanting to melt everything together and show the last veil or stage of awakening, that will be trust.
The Holy Spirit uses time to teach us there is no such thing as time, to take us back to that timeless moment that’s the gateway to eternity. He uses symbols to teach us that they are all illusions and that they are all equally meaningless. That’s precisely the approach to operation of Holy Spirit. The Spirit has to work with the mind to loosen the attachments from the investment in all sorts of things. What kind of things would you spend money on, nowadays?
